Relationships Between Parents and Children Add a Creepy Aspect to Many Horror Movies. Iconic Mother Chris MacNeil, Played Brilliantly by Ellen Burstyn in The Exorcist, and Pregnant Rosemary, Played by Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby, Have Protective Parental Instincts Like Ike, Played by Kane Hodder in Exit 33

Exit 33, Rosemary's Baby, and The Exorcist all center on parents who are obsessive with protecting their children. The famously protective mother Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), in The Exorcist struggled valiantly to save the soul of her daughter, who had been possessed by a demon. As the title, The Exorcist, suggests, she calls upon the aid of a priest trained in the art of exorcism to help her and her daughter. Ellen Burstyn portrays the Character of Chris MacNeil to perfection, giving an epic performance of a mother who is distressed and terrified of her child's behavior. The Exorcist is held by many horror enthusiasts to be one of the top Horror films of all times.

Another famously creepy film about a distressed, desperate mother is Rosemary's Baby, where pregnant Rosemary, played by Mia Farrow, is convinced that her neighbors have twisted plans for her unborn child. Rosemary's Baby is another example of how maternal dedication can be the perfect premise for a chillingly horrifying thriller. Mia Farrow gives Rosemary a convincing character, making Rosemary's Baby another horror genre classic.

Kane Hodder plays Ike, a father with a young son, in Exit 33. As Ike in Exit 33, Kane Hodder turns parental devotion into gristly horror as he acts out his twisted desire to find eyes to equal those of his lost love. Through the abduction, torture, and murder of lovely, innocent young women, he adds to his grotesque collection of eyes in the hopes of replacing her for his son. In Exit 33, the protective parent is the villain, not the victim, which adds a startling twist to a character who would otherwise be considered completely evil. Adding a commendable character trait such as parental love to a horribly twisted, brutal killer like Ike gives Exit 33 a spectacularly gripping sub-plot that makes is just that much scarier.
